November 2022Figuritas busca conexiones entre las artes visuales y el fútbol, dos manifestaciones culturales trascendentales para nuestra contemporaneidad. Y también, dos pasiones. En un arco de tiempo que va desde los años noventa hasta el presente, esta exposición bucea en el arte argentino y encuentra que el fútbol aparece en obras de artistas de poéticas y trayectorias diversas, y por razones variadas: por la atracción de sus objetos y colores, por la fuerza de sus historias o por su manera de condensar la trama social de una época. 
El arte y el fútbol son parte de una tendencia global creciente de las imágenes a adquirir un valor cultural y comercial arrollador, al punto de transformarse en vehículos de nuevas formas de sentir, pertenecer y comunicarnos con otros y otras. Figuritas aborda el arte y el fútbol como prácticas que comparten un interés por lo visual y como ámbitos en los que las imágenes operan en disputa. 
Los núcleos alrededor de los que se organiza el recorrido en la sala son tres modos de intersección entre el arte contemporáneo y el fútbol. El primero, ofrece un conjunto de obras en las que el fútbol se vincula con lo popular desde la tragedia, lo sagrado y la exacerbación de las pasiones. El segundo, se dedica al cruce entre la imagen del ídolo futbolístico y la construcción de la celebridad, la fama y el estrellato. El último, se concentra en los aspectos más físicos del deporte y en la potencia expresiva de sus  cuerpos, reales o espectrales, ante la mirada pública. 

Figuritas no es una romantización ingenua del fútbol ni una búsqueda por utilizarlo como una herramienta para denunciar sus intereses comerciales. Por el contrario, es una propuesta desde  las contradicciones de un deporte en cuyo centro luchan los sentimientos populares, los capitales económicos y las identificaciones culturales. En esa complejidad se detiene esta exhibición, asumiendo los distintos matices que acompañaron al fútbol y al arte desde hace más de treinta años y que continúan en la actualidad.




Figuritas seeks connections between the visual arts and soccer, two cultural manifestations that are transcendental for our contemporary world. And also, two passions. Spanning the period from the 1990s to the present, this exhibition delves into Argentine art and finds that soccer appears in the works of artists with diverse poetics and trajectories, and for various reasons: because of the appeal of its objects and colors, the power of its stories, or its ability to condense the social fabric of an era. 
Art and soccer are part of a growing global trend in which images acquire overwhelming cultural and commercial value, to the point of becoming vehicles for new ways of feeling, belonging, and communicating with others. Figuritas approaches art and soccer as practices that share an interest in the visual and as fields in which images operate in dispute. 
The exhibition is organized around three modes of intersection between contemporary art and soccer. The first offers a set of works in which soccer is linked to the popular through tragedy, the sacred, and the exacerbation of passions. The second is dedicated to the intersection between the image of the soccer idol and the construction of celebrity, fame, and stardom. The last focuses on the more physical aspects of the sport and the expressive power of its bodies, real or spectral, in the public eye. 

Figuritas is not a naive romanticization of soccer, nor is it a quest to use it as a tool to denounce its commercial interests. On the contrary, it is a proposal based on the contradictions of a sport at the center of which popular sentiments, economic capital, and cultural identifications struggle. This exhibition dwells on that complexity, taking on board the different nuances that have accompanied soccer and art for more than thirty years and continue to do so today.
