Después de la naturaleza toma como punto de partida el más reciente informe del Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC), que indica que si no se recortan drásticamente las emisiones de carbono, hacia el año 2042 nuestro planeta sufrirá un incremento global de 1,5º C provocando un desastre ambiental aún mayor del que vivimos en la actualidad. La exposición indaga en los orígenes del cambio climático: la separación entre cultura y naturaleza, entre humanx y no humanx, y el paradigma extractivista que media entre ambos términos. Las formas de producción industriales y las políticas extractivistas que organizan la vida moderna han provocado la aparición de fenómenos meteorológicos como tornados devastadores, olas de frío y calor extremos, y la desertificación y las inundaciones de grandes territorios. Así hemos arrasado con todo tipo de recursos naturales y ecosistemas esenciales, profundizando la injusticia social y territorial, el sometimiento de países del sur global y la explotación histórica de pueblos enteros.

Desde el límite poroso entre dicotomías como naturaleza versus humanx, humanx versus máquina y el mundo empírico versus lo sobrenatural o extraterrenal, Después de la naturaleza se propone experimentar lo “ecológico” no como una categoría pedagógica sino como una forma de re-imaginar nuestros vínculos con el planeta. “Después de la naturaleza” no es el fin de la naturaleza, sino el comienzo de lo que Donna Haraway llama “naturacultura”: una forma de coexistencia que reconoce la inseparabilidad de estos términos en sus relaciones tanto biofísicas como formadas socialmente, y que nos permitirá, eventualmente, devenir seres ecológicxs.

Las obras reunidas en la exposición producen imágenes que se desplazan de la filosofía extractivista y el ecocidio hacia modos sensuales y fabuladores de imaginarnos la vida en la Tierra. Desde imaginarios terrenales y extraterrenales, las artistas invitadas producen obras que entrelazan formas vegetales y materiales industriales hasta hacer desaparecer sus diferencia; ponen en imágenes ideas metafísicas sobre el origen del mundo y su energía supernatural; imaginan figuras humanoides que se funden con plantas, animales e insectos, engendrando nuevos cuerpos e identidades más-que-humanas; crean objetos ensamblados e irreconocibles como venidos de otra galaxia o de tiempos ancestrales que desbordan los límites de lo conocido y lo que pensamos como posible. De esta manera, las obras configuran escenarios para una imaginación que pueda desconocer algunas de las categorías modernas que ya no nos sirven, y enunciar, en cambio, nuevos modelos de ser, pensar, sentir y convivir en los ecosistemas del presente. 



After Nature takes as its starting point the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which indicates that if carbon emissions are not drastically reduced, by 2042 our planet will suffer a global increase of 1.5°C, causing an environmental disaster even greater than the one we are currently experiencing. The exhibition explores the origins of climate change: the separation between culture and nature, between human and non-human, and the extractivist paradigm that mediates between the two terms. The industrial forms of production and extractivist policies that organize modern life have led to the emergence of meteorological phenomena such as devastating tornadoes, extreme cold and heat waves, and the desertification and flooding of large territories. In this way, we have destroyed all kinds of natural resources and essential ecosystems, deepening social and territorial injustice, the subjugation of countries in the global south, and the historical exploitation of entire peoples. From the porous boundary between dichotomies such as nature versus human, human versus machine, and the empirical world versus the supernatural or extraterrestrial, After Nature proposes to experience the “ecological” not as a pedagogical category but as a way of reimagining our links with the planet. “After Nature” is not the end of nature, but the beginning of what Donna Haraway calls “naturaculture”: a form of coexistence that recognizes the inseparability of these terms in their biophysical and socially formed relationships, and that will eventually allow us to become ecological beings. The works brought together in the exhibition produce images that shift from extractivist philosophy and ecocide toward sensual and fabulist ways of imagining life on Earth. From earthly and extraterrestrial imaginaries, the invited artists produce works that intertwine plant forms and industrial materials until their differences disappear; they put into images metaphysical ideas about the origin of the world and its supernatural energy; imagine humanoid figures that merge with plants, animals, and insects, engendering new bodies and more-than-human identities; they create assembled objects that are unrecognizable, as if they came from another galaxy or from ancestral times, overflowing the limits of the known and what we think is possible. In this way, the works set the stage for an imagination that can disregard some of the modern categories that no longer serve us, and instead enunciate new models of being, thinking, feeling, and coexisting in the ecosystems of the present.
